About Artist
Luke George (he/they) is a multidisciplinary artist creating work that spans performance, installation, craft and curation. Born in lutruwita/Tasmania, Luke resides and creates on Wurundjeri and Boon Wurrung Country in Naarm/Melbourne. Luke’s artistic practice is informed by queer politics, whereby people are neither singular nor isolated; bodies of difference can intersect, practice mutual listening, take responsibility for themselves and one another. Luke’s works explore risk and intimacy and employ daring and at times, unorthodox methods, to create further possibilities for artist and audience to encounter each other. Luke’s work takes him across Australia, Asia, Europe and North America, with notable presentations at the Venice Biennale, Dance Massive (Melbourne), National Gallery of Singapore, Rencontres chorégraphiques de Seine-Saint-Denis (Paris), Time Based Art Festival (Portland) and many more. A multiple Green Room Award recipient, Luke was a 2019 Australia Council for the Arts Fellowship recipient, in 2020 appointed inaugural Artistic Associate of Temperance Hall and to the Co-Design Consultation for the re-imagined dance biennial in Melbourne. In 2022 Luke is an artist in residence at the Collingwood Yards Precinct, he premiered STILL LIVES: MELBOURNE, commissioned for the RISING Festival and presented with National Gallery of Victoria, and was bequeathed a Chloe Monroe Fellowship.
