SOTA Drama Theatre

BLKDOG is for everyone who has dealt with trauma and grief. For anyone who has had to watch family members go through depression or loss. We live in a society where speaking about our emotions may never be understood; I spent my childhood never speaking about my emotions and now at the age of 30 I can finally speak up.” – Botis Seva

Hailed by The Guardian as “a powerful evocation of alienation, oppression and memory”, BLKDOG is a delicate and brutal commentary on how today's youth are coping in a world not built for them. Botis Seva’s groundbreaking hip hop theatre performance, which won the Olivier Award in 2019 for Best New Dance Production, is a poetic piece that asks and reveals: How do we fight through our vices and inner demons to find a sense of peace?

The stage becomes a figurative battlefield for adult traumas and haunting childhood memories. Powered by high-energy moves and captivating athleticism, the performance showcases the versatility of hip hop theatre company Far From The Norm’s dancers, who specialise in a variety of street dance styles. Vital and gripping, BLKDOG explores the connections between self-discovery and self-destruction, and the search for ways to cope in the ultimate hunt for acceptance.

There will be a post-show talk with the cast of BLKDOG after Thursday evening’s performance.

There will also be a dance workshop with Botis Seva on 26 May, click here to sign up.
