Spanning three decades of Japanese artist Shiro Takatani’s artistic journey, this extraordinary film traces the evolution of his work in Europe and Japan through his installations, theatre and dance performances.
Conceived by Italian director Giulio Boato, whose award-winning documentaries of artists began with his portrait of the controversial stage director Jan Fabre, these carefully selected performances – remarkably filmed – demonstrate the evolution of Takatani’s work.
Featuring Takatani and his collaborators, including composer Ryūichi Sakamoto, the film explains the driving principles behind Takatani’s work. Nature and people are observed through modern tools, from enhancing infinitely small organisms, exploring large-scale galaxies, to creating interactions between performers with cameras and large screens.
